Welcome to Nightwind Treatment Centre

At Nightwind Treatment Centre (NWTC), we are dedicated to empowering youth ages 12 to 22 who are facing significant challenges. We provide a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment where young people can begin their journey toward healing and growth. Through daily living experiences, recreational activities, and both individual and group counselling, we nurture resilience and self-discovery. We believe that every young person has the strength and potential to build a brighter future.

Our approach is deeply personal—we collaborate closely with each youth, their casework team, and their family to create a tailored treatment plan. By focusing on healing, skill-building, and goal-setting, we help young people gain the confidence and tools they need to move forward and contribute meaningfully to their communities. At NWTC, we don’t just provide treatment—we offer hope, guidance, and a path toward a brighter future.

Kihew House, Sturgeon County

  • 9-bed rural treatment program for young women ages 12-18

  • Referral sources: DFNAs & Jordan’s Principle

  • Focus: Trauma recovery, substance use, and conflict resolution

  • Approach: Rooted in Indigenous cultural teachings, structured around the Medicine Wheel and Seven Sacred Teachings

Thunderbird Landing, Westlock County

  • 4-bed rural co-ed receiving and assessment program for youth ages 12-18

  • Coming Spring 2026: 4-bed medically supervised detox unit

  • Referral sources: DFNAs & Jordan’s Principle

  • Focus: Stabilization and crisis support, including medical care and individualized treatment planning

Grandmother Turtle House, Westlock

  • 5-bed Transitional Semi-Independent Living (TSIL) co-ed program for youth ages 15-22

  • Referral sources: DFNAs & Jordan’s Principle

  • Focus: Daily living skills, education, employment, and transition to independent living

  • Approach: Trauma-informed care in a home-like environment

Therapeutic Foster Care, North & YEG Region

  • 6 beds available in Edmonton and surrounding areas

  • Referral sources: Contracted through CS (Alberta)

  • Focus: Trauma-informed foster care model, placing youth in small, highly supportive two-bed homes with trained and supported foster families

Stony Creek, Tawatinaw Valley

  • 7-bed rural co-ed group care program for youth ages 12-18

  • Referral sources: Contracted through CS (Alberta)

  • Focus: Cultural awareness, emotional regulation, healthy relationships, self-identity, and conflict resolution

  • Approach: Integrates agriculture, nature, outdoor education, and physical activity as key healing components
